Once upon a time.... blah...blah... blah.....

Madeliene, don't laugh when you see these... I'm warning you....

The dress in blue is sort of the real traditional dress.... The material is called "songket" (pronounced 'song-kate' ) it is made of golden thread, rather expensive. the wedding gown is western (we're a British colony...). Some wedding dresses may come from other traditions, too, e.g. from Thailand, India, Chinese, Indonesia. Malaysia is a multi-cultural country, so everything is sort of mix and match... Some of my friends wore big golden color bangles on the ankles. They (the bangles) look really nice....
I wanted a nose ring... but.... (can you imagine that???...)

Observe the yellow thing at the bottom of the picture. It is made of sticky rice (we called it glutinous rice). The rice grains are soaked with tumeric, and later steamed. Once cooked, the rice is pressed in a container. We also made decorative flowers from crepe papers, ribbons, or golden lace (depends on your taste) and we tie them to tiny bamboo sticks. We also included boiled eggs. Those are the ones hanging as in the picture... what a representation....
